Day one of my adventure at Tiger Muay Thai began today. I rested at the weekend as I wasn’t very well (not flu) and I have disciplined myself to my original choice of classes today so that I dont over train. I started at 6.30am with the amazing morning yoga. It is such a lovely start to the day and so feel good and relaxing.
There was time for some R&R before the 8.30am CrossFit Class. It was Upper Focus and using proper barbells rather than hand weights as well as throwing medicine balls with a partner (which I loved). I have never done anything using barbells and as my upper body strength is my weakest area I just used the pole to learn good form (the pole is 8 kilos). I kind of enjoyed it but was a little stressed because everyone else seemed to know what they were doing and had weights added. I had fun once I relaxed and realised that it is not The Olympics and I was right to focus on form.
Then more rest at our villa and lunch followed by a 1.00pm Strength and Conditioning class where the focus was deadlifts and lower body. Now that I really enjoyed because I felt confident enough to add two 5 kilo barbells to my pole.Nothing compared to everybody else but it was good for me. I know for next week I might be able to lift a bit more as my lower body is relatively strong. Now it is complete rest and a swim in the pool and a light dinner before night yoga tonight. No Muay Thai for me today… the above is enough 😀💪💪💪
Now all that is progress year on year. I feel so good… yet, I know it is going to be my upper body that I feel tomorrow even though I used very little weight. I know I didn’t use enough for my lower body but, again focus on correct form but I had an absolute blast. I really did.
Yesterday was my “sleep in” day, and I ended up not working out. Unwise, I know, because I was feeling little stabbing pains in my back as I was walking the dog this morning. So, I decided that today was the day for Deep Stretch, and it was just what the doctor ordered. I’m trying to learn to listen to my body instead of just trying to force it to do what I want, and today I did that.
Day 9 and it started with the morning yoga which is always so good.I followed that with morning CrossFit. It was a StrongMAN (hmmmmm there were women there too) circuit session which I thoroughly enjoyed. I like these circuits where you work with a partner at your own pace, at your own level. It was tough but with the partner work there was also time for resting too. My efforts at the bench press were funny (pole only again) but there was no pressure. I had my daily hour of Muay Thai (also tough) but fun, empowering and I have definitely improved.
My wrists are quite sore and I think that might be down to all the planks, upward and downward facing dogs et al…I have been doing with the twice daily yoga sessions and with the pushups in almost every other class. This evening I am going to have a nice long relaxing massage and skip evening yoga. My body is telling me to relax… so I will.
Days 6 and 7 (Saturday and Sunday) I rested. Did nothing at all on Saturday apart from read, relax, eat sleep and on Sunday the same. I did do Jessica’s new Walk and Talk on Sunday morning…. it was as if she was speaking just to me. It gave me a lot to reflect upon and I have decided to be much kinder to myself and stop myself from any negative self talk. I have a strong and flexible body and I should be happy with that. I have to pinch myself and count my blessings. How lucky am I? I am having the most wonderful holiday ever…
Day 8 and another Sunny Monday in Phuket, Thailand. I started my day with the 6.30am yoga class and then had a rest for a few hours before the Western Boxing fundamentals class. I have never done Western Boxing before so it was a good brain workout as there is a lot to remember. After lunch I had my first one on one Muay Thai lesson and I had a fantastic time. The boxing fundamentals helped with my punching technique and I learned some new Muay Thai techniques too as well as practicing moves I already knew. I was really surprised at how far I have come in terms of my strength and fitness since my last one on one with Max. I have another class booked tomorrow with the same trainer. He actually told me I was fit and strong so I am flying on air at the moment. The one on one ended with 50 sit ups while he hit my stomach with the training pad. That wasn’t a problem but I remember the very first time in 2016 with my trainer in HK when I couldn’t even do ten sit ups having my abs punched.
Tonight it will definitely be the evening yoga class and I am not going to to CrossFit. Morning yoga, Western Boxing, a private Muay Thai and evening yoga is more than enough for today. I can feel my triceps from the punching and quads from the Kickboxing.
mholsworth I am thinking of you and your son. You are in my thoughts and meditations. Stay strong and positive
This morning was barre sculpt for me. I almost wimped out and did a gentle yoga or something, but I didn’t want to break my streak of doing the workouts as scheduled on the calendar. Honestly, I didn’t remember it at all at first, and struggled to get started, but I felt better and remembered more as the workout progressed. By the time I was done, I was so glad I had chosen to do the scheduled workout. Feeling 💪.
